The Boogeyman | Scaring Kids From Closets

The Boogeyman | Scaring Kids From Closets

August 24, 2020 Jacob 'Jake' Rice

The Boogeyman is a fear entity that feeds off scared kids. It comes from beyond the Veil and uses closets and other dark places to manifest. It may look like a man wearing a top hat or worse. Get more after the jump.

Boogeyman Manifestations

The Boogeyman is a dark entity that lives beyond the Veil. It’s a parasite that feeds on children’s fear. However, it’s not the strongest entity, and you can scare it off with enough courage and confidence.

When the Boogeyman manifests, it appears in the shadows and darkest corners of your room. That usually means a closet or under a bed. But any dark place could let the Boogeyman through. It’s attracted by scared kids and it will use any opening to the Veil.

Speaking of the Veil, fear can weaken the barrier between our worlds. The dark entities that live there can rip an opening to feed. This usually happens around Halloween, but the Boogeyman can use the opening anytime.

When the Boogeyman manifests, you may experience these events:

  • Loud creaking of doors or windows
  • Toys seem to move on their own
  • Cold takes over the room
  • Shadows become darker
  • Scratching sounds fill the room
  • Lights flicker or go out
  • Pets try to leave the room

To get a more academic perspective on the Boogeyman, see more at Wikipedia.

Appearance

In most cases, the Boogeyman looks like a shadowy figure in your closet, under your bed or in the corners of your room. It doesn’t like to come out of the shadows. It’s stronger there.

It takes on certain shapes (silhouettes). Some of the most popular ones include:

  • A man wearing a top hat
  • A beast with tentacles swirling around
  • A fanged monster with long claws
  • A blob that stretches to surround you

Just remember that none of the shapes are well defined. It lets your imagination make up scarier details. The Boogeyman is sort of lazy and won’t spend too much energy making the scariest monster. Your brain does that more than it can.

Abilities

Like many supernatural monsters, the Boogeyman has a bunch of powers. These include:

  • Teleport to different homes using shadows and darkness
  • Shapeshift into monster silhouettes
  • Create fear in children
  • Cause illusions to make kids more afraid
  • Turn its eyes red to scare you

Now, the Boogeyman can cause fear, but it can’t touch anyone. It’s not really that strong. If a shadowy monster did hurt someone, it would be a demon or other dark entity. The Boogeyman is all show with nothing to back it up.

That brings us to …

Weaknesses

The Boogeyman is a fear parasite: It eats off negative emotions to survive. If you show strength and courage, you can frighten this monster away.

That’s why turning on the light helps so many kids. The Boogeyman needs darkness and shadows to enter our world from beyond the Veil. Without a link to it, the monster has to leave or it gets hurt. The light acts as a shield, but it’s powered by the kid’s confidence. They believe the light will protect them so much, it creates a barrier that drives the Boogeyman away.

Once a kid gets over their fear of the dark, the Boogeyman will start to leave them alone.

What To Do If The Boogeyman Comes For You

When the Boogeyman comes after you, it will start to do little things to scare you. Rarely does it just appear to shock you. That may be a tasty morsel for it, but it likes to build your fear to eat it.

Ideally, you could have a night light to create a protective sphere around your bed. The Boogeyman can’t break the light without getting hurt.

You could also put a light in the closet to stop it from manifesting. This monster is clever and it finds ways to get around a closet light, though. It could cause something to break the light or manifest quickly to burn it out.

The best thing to do is show your courage and confidence. That means getting over your fears so the Boogeyman can’t feed on you. It’s not a powerful entity and it can get scared away by you.

Once it knows you’re not an easy target, it will leave you alone.
