Haunted Mirrors – An Evil Spirit’s Favorite Portal

Haunted Mirrors – An Evil Spirit’s Favorite Portal

March 30, 2014 Jacob 'Jake' Rice

Mirrors. They say they reflect your soul. They’re also a very common entry point for evil spirits. Learn how to defend yourself.

Mirrors can be troublesome. They share many of the same ghostly bonds as haunted locations. Usually, the two go together. Especially when an evil spirit is involved.

Many times, a very twisted spirit attaches to the mirror. Many mentally sick people, like psychopaths, have a narcissistic disorder. They spend a lot of time looking at themselves in mirrors. They’re vain, vapid and evil.

Mirrors capture the essence of these people. When an evil person projects that much energy into their image, it’s bound to get locked into the mirror. A link to the spirit is now forged.

How do you end up with a haunted mirror? Estate sales and eBay.

Antique mirrors are very popular collectibles, but they don’t come with a curse-free guarantee. If you buy an antique or previously owned mirror, you could invite spirits into your home.

To be safe, you may want to research the history of the mirror. During your research, if you find the previous owner committed crimes or the home where the mirror hanged was the scene of tragic events, then you may want to pass on the sale. You could also ask a psychic, gifted with psychometry, to review the mirror. If they pick up bad vibes, move the mirror out of your house. At the very least, leave it wrapped up so you can’t see your reflection. Once see your reflection in it, the mirror could open up to the spirit world.

There really isn’t a good way to purge the spirit from a haunted mirror. The most common ways to break the bond include:

  • Burning the object (not ideal in this case)
  • Blessing the mirror (this is hit or miss)
  • Breaking the glass and replacing it (again, it’s hit or miss)
  • Bury it in a graveyard or cemetery

All of the solutions mean you lose your money. The best method is prevention. Do the research and make sure it’s clean before you buy it.

We posted on haunted objects in an older post. It has more useful information about cursed and haunted objects to help you.

Hi Sandie, thanks for commenting. If you go to the Comments on this post, you’ll see my response to Toni Strle. That’s the best way to handle the mirror.

Hi there, I recently moved into a new home, I bought a lot of my furniture second hand to save some money
I purchased three oak wardrobes from an old traveler lady (hope I havnt said that inappropriately,it’s how she introduced herself) I paid for the wardrobes, but she offered my an old free standing mirror, I didn’t really want it but took it to be polite, I put it in my bedroom , I instantly got uneasy vibes from it and instinctively turned it slightly so it wasn’t reflecting on my bed, I woke during the night about two weeks ago and thought I could see a large black shadow in the corner beside the mirror, I ignored it and kinda forgot about it, until I asked my little girl to go to my room and get something for me, she refused and said she was scared of that mirror, I hadn’t told her I feel the same
Then things escalated last night when I was woken by something jumping on the bed next to me, it felt large and the duvet pulled under its weight, I thought I might be dreaming so I tugged at the duvet and whatever it was tugged it back with force, I jumped up out of bed and basically said every protection spell I could think of and tried to calm down as it scared the heck out of me, I’m open minded but nothing like this has ever happened before to me, I after I woke up again this morning the mirror was tilted towards the bed
Have you any suggestions on what to do

    Thanks Sandie

Hi Tabitha, thanks for commenting. I don’t think this is related to the mirror. If it were, then it would be the grandparents (or one of them) manifesting. A general shadow dream usually means anxiety or worry. If your son has started a new school, or maybe has a bully at school, that could explain the dark shadow in his dreams. Hope this helps!

Hi Toni, thanks for commenting. The best thing to do would be to return it. If that’s not possible, then wrap it in a bag, put sea salt on it and wrap it with an iron chain. That will neutralize it. Next, have it blessed; replace the glass; bury it in a graveyard; or, burn it. Blessing and replacing the glass doesn’t work every time. If you’re really worried, I’d bury it in a graveyard after salting and binding it.

Hello, I received a mercury mirror from a customer that comes in my work. She gives me all kinds of antiques. Well this mirror stands out. It’s from around the mid evil times (1400s). It’s straight out of horror film with tombstone craved wood and plaster painted in black lacquer. Although it’s been in my house for over a month now things have started happening. My daughter is terrified to go up stairs. Said her dream was so real about a scary ghost being up there. My husband has been hearing the doors open slowly and shut. I have heard the same. My two other girls are scared to be alone but not sure why. Can you help me? Thank you. Toni

Hi Vennessa, thanks for commenting. It’s hard to say. If the mirror was a portal, then that would help. It could be something else though. Haunted mirrors tend to act up quickly, so it would’ve had activity within the first couple of weeks. If nothing goes missing now, then the mirror was probably the reason.

Hello my husband and myself recently purchased a new home and all was well for a couple of months and then things started disappearing, my spare car key has disappeared and so has all the salt in my kitchen. I recently discovered a tall mirror in the basement closet it was really dirty and really cloudy, I threw the mirror in the garbage outside of our house will this stop things from disappearing?

Hi Morgan, thanks for commenting. It may be something else. Haunted mirrors are usually old. A new mirror wouldn’t have absorbed enough energy to cause a haunting. What other activity have you had?
