Ghost Hunt Follow-up: Mt. Washington, California

September 12, 2013 Jacob 'Jake' Rice

Ghostly Activities returned to the private residence in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The home owner reported continuing haunting activity in the attic. During our first ghost hunt, we focused on the attic and main floor of the ranch-style house. This time, our investigation focused on the attic and the large backyard.

We brought the following equipment:

  • MEL EMF meter with digital thermometer
  • Infrared digital camera
  • Digital audio recorder
  • Digital camera (ISO 400 setting)

Attic Investigation

The ghost hunt began at dusk on September 6th, 2013. We set out to capture EVP in the attic and record any apparitions. Jake set the digital camera to video mode to capture any shadows or apparitions. Saleen ran an EVP session. The owner has a cat that normally has access to the attic. We had him locked in his cage on the main floor to prevent him from creating false evidence.

The attic evidence collection lasted 2 hours. We didn’t capture any evidence of a ghost or paranormal entity. The most noticeable data were creaking and moaning from the house frame. The house is wood construction and it shifts when it cools off at night. Mt. Washington can be as hot as 100 degrees (f) during the day and in the 50s at night. That’s a big transition. Also, tree branches scrape the roof and there’s a lot of wildlife (like raccoons) that rummage in the area. The owner stated that she hears someone walking around the attic, but it became obvious to us the house shifting and tree branches scraping debunked the ghostly activities as natural. Saleen, our psi-sensitive investigator, didn’t feel anything ghostly in the attic, either.

Backyard Investigation

The backyard investigation led to some interesting data collection. We used the infrared camera, digital audio recorder and MEL EMF meter for collect data. The backyard has 4 levels to it because the property is on the side of a relative steep hill:

  1. house level
  2. hot tub level
  3. open pitch with mango trees and shrubs
  4. deck level overlooking downtown Los Angeles

We captured some evidence on level 3 under a large mango tree. Hector, the suspected spirit, grew mangos on the property in the 1960s. While Saleen conducted an EVP session under the largest mango tree, she got cold chills and my EMF meter got a surge. It was not a windy night and there were no indications of a power supply on level 3. My EMF meter went from a 0 reading to 3mG (milliGaus) for about 10 seconds. The thermometer showed a decrease in the ambient temperature by 7 degrees (from 65 degrees to 58 degrees). It lasted for nearly 10 seconds. We did not collect any EVP evidence on our audio recorder and there was no infrared anomalies. We couldn’t debunk the phenomena.

Ghost Hunt Conclusion

If Hector still visits his house, then we think he’s just checking in. There’s no danger to anyone living in the house or nearby. We don’t believe this site will have a continuous haunting.
